Ericsson has entered into a deal with Digicel Group, the largest mobile telecommunications operator in the Caribbean under which the Swedish firm will provide its solar-powered site solution to provide energy-lean network coverage in distant areas of Suriname.
As per the deal, Ericsson will offer its solar based solution based on its main remote GSM base station RBS 2111 which will result in saving up to 50 percent of the energy consumption, claims the company.
Under the deal, Ericsson will also supply MINI-LINK TN all-outdoor transmission, solar panels and battery back-up solutions. Further it will undertake network deployment and system integration work, claims the tie-up.
Commenting on the development, Sergio Quiroga da Cunha, President of Ericsson in northern Latin America said “This deal marks an important milestone and we are proud to implement the first solar solution in South America.” |
