Speculations of Sun Microsystems takeover float in air, again
TT Bureau |  |  22 Aug 2008

Spurred by plummeting share price and depressing estimates, speculations of a takeover of Sun Microsystems by Hewlett-Packard, Fujitsu or another tech giant are seen making the rounds.

While the company spokesperson has made no comment on the probable sale, but the acquisition if taken place, would be a stupendous deal, involving a company which mints out an annual sale of $13.9, a workforce of nearly 35,000 worldwide and the doom of the seventh-largest company based in Silicon Valley.

Analysts are reading rival companies- HP, IBM or Dell as a potential buyer for Sun Microsystems.

Conversely, other analysts have dismissed the probability of an acquisition citing that the management of Sun is far more focused on fixing the business rather than selling the company. They say that such speculations have been surfacing since the past decade and the recent speculations too should be considered as part of this trend.
