COAI says only govt licencees can offer telecom services at Airports
TT Correspondent |  New Delhi |  26 Aug 2008

Alarmed over speculations that GMR, which is developing the Delhi Airport, has invited bids from non telecom companies to offer telecom services in the Airport premises, the GSM lobby, COAI has said that only licence holders are allowed to offer telecom services in the country including at the Airports.

"We have learnt that GMR has invited some of the non- telecom companies for the coverage of airport premises... Only telecom companies who have licences given by the government can offer the services," said COAI Director General T V Ramachandran.

GMR plans to offer services like Wi-Fi, mobile and PCO services. It claims it has invited only qualified companies to bid for the services.
