US mobile operator Verizon Communications said Tuesday that the company in collaboration with Nokia Siemens Networks has successfully concluded a trial demonstration of 100Gbs transmission via the Verizon optical cables, deployed in March this year.
The demonstration which showed that 100 Gb/s traffic can be simultaneously transmitted with any mix of 10 Gb/s and 40 Gb/s on a normal 80-channel system, will enable operators of extending the lifetime of existing fiber cable networks while still achieving the capacities required for expanding bandwidth requirements.
The result of the trial runs will be presented in a common paper, compiled by Verizon, Nokia Siemens Networks, TU Eindhoven and the University of the German Federal Armed Forces in Munich at ECOC 2008 conference in Belgium on 25 September, 2008. |
