I&B Ministry directs IPTV operators to beam 8 DD channels
TT Correspondent |  New Delhi |  01 Oct 2008

The Information and Broadcasting (I&B) Ministry has reportedly directed the IPTV service providers in India to beam eight channels of National Broadcaster, Doordarshan.

The I&B Ministry has issued the directive as per Section 8 of the Cable TV Network Regulation Act.

The mandatory channels are Lok Sabha Television, DD Rajya Sabha, DD-1, DD News, DD Sports, DD Urdu, Gyan Darshan and DD Bharti.

While DTH and cable service providers have to broadcast only 5 channels due to bandwidth limitations, the I&B Ministry has asked IPTV service providers to beam 8 channels as there is no such bandwidth limitation in case of IPTV.
