Canadian telecommunication company TELUS said that it will install a next generation wireless network employing the advanced mobile broadband network technology High Speed Packet Access (HSPA).
This initiative is expected to ensure a smoother transition to long term evolution (LTE) technology, the upcoming worldwide fourth generation (4G) technology standard, as it is slated to hit the shores by early 2010 based on the latest version of High Speed Packet Access (HSPA) technology.
On completion of the new network, almost all major mobile wireless handsets and devices in the world would be compatible to TELUS network, spanning HSPA, CDMA, and iDEN networks, said the company.
The move also complements TELUS’ existing wireless portfolio that includes Code Division Multiple Access, providing access to Canada’s largest third generation High Speed wireless network and Mike, its Push-to-Talk network and business service.
The capital expenditures for the project are estimated at approximately $1.9 billion for 2008 and slightly more than $750 million in 2009. |
