Syniverse Technologies (SVR), a provider of business and technology solutions has been picked out by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) as one of the two companies that will deploy mobile number portability (MNP) services in India.
As a part of the arrangement, Syniverse will provide the country’s telecommunications operators with number portability clearing house and centralized database solutions for the next 10 years.
To begin with, DoT has split the country in two geographic zones for number portability implementation, each of which will be handled by a different MNP provider. Syniverse is bestowed with the responsibility of receiving the license for Zone 1, which engulfs areas like Delhi, Mumbai, Maharashtra, Gujarat and seven others.
The MNP implementation will initially concentrate on the larger metropolitan service areas before moving into the more rural locations.
Syniverse, in its new role, will seek to keep an accurate, rapid and seamless number porting process for both Indian operators and their subscribers, helping the transfer of telephone numbers when users wish to switch from one operator to another.
Commenting on the accomplishment, Raymond Cheung, Executive Vice President and CEO for Syniverse Asia Pacific, said, “It is a tremendous honor to be selected to provide number portability in India. Syniverse’s proven track record of implementing MNP in countries that include Singapore, the United States, Canada and Hong Kong will help ensure Indian operators have an efficient, cost-effective solution that also will benefit their subscribers.”
MNP Interconnect will deploy the MNP system in the other zone. |
