Motorola has bagged a contract worth $116 million from Etihad Etisalat to expand the network coverage in Saudi Arabia.

The deal represents the fifth GSM network expansion that the operator, functioning under the trade name Mobily has taken up in association with Motorola in four years.

Within the capacity of the arrangement, Motorola will render both its GSM infrastructure solutions and its rich services to Mobily, helping benefit users in the northwest and southwest regions of Saudi Arabia and will also help strengthen Mobily''s subscriber base within the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

“The demand for reliable communications services in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is growing and the Mobily expansion project of our GSM network will help to meet the demands and expectations of new subscribers in the western north and southern north regions,” said Khalid Al-Kaf, CEO of Mobily.

Mobily is the first company to get an operation license for 3G services in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
