New entrants plan new industry body
TT Correspondent |  New Delhi |  12 May 2009

New entrants into India''s mobile services market are planning to float a new industry body to advocate their cause and issues.

Unitech, Swan, Loop, Datacom, RCom and TTSL are speculated to be in talks towards forming a new body.

Though the players will offer GSM based services, they may not find subscribing to COAI to be of any interest because COAI is perceived to be leading the cause of incumbent GSM operators.

There are eminent difference of opinion between new entrants and incumbents over issues such as additional spectrum grant, IUC and others.

Some of the new entrants had last year announced plans to join COAI. It remains to be seen if they will continue to hold the membership.
