Even as Bharti refutes, MTN's PIC says scope for improvement in offer price
TT Bureau |  |  03 Jun 2009

The Bharti-MTN proposed deal continues function under a dark cloud of uncertainty. Just a day after Bharti Chairman Sunil Mittal had quote that Bharti had offered the best deal to MTN, the latter''s investor Public Investment Corporation (PIC),  stated that there was still scope for improvement in the offer.

“Because of the strategic imperative, yes we will support the deal, but it depends on how they are going to negotiate, how the final details are going to look. I would say there is room for improvement on the price,” said PIC chief executive Brian Molefe to Reuters.

A day earlier Sunil Mittal had said, "There is no occasion for that (to revise the offer) ... there is enough headroom for FDI ... at the moment we will remain in talks with them (MTN)."

PIC however supported the initiative by MTN and said that the move to diversify was indeed appreciable.
