Etisalat said that it has awarded a WiMAX related contract to Samsung Electronics valued at over $ 100 million. The contract is for Etisalat’s Middle East subsidiary, Bayanat al-Oula or Mobily.

According to Samsung the contract will result in setting up the biggest WiMAX network in the Middle East region in terms of geographic coverage as well as user capacity. Samsung will supply 1,400 more base stations to Mobily which as of now has 400 base stations. The project will be completed by 2009.

Post network rollout, Mobily will be able to expand its broadband services from the present 4 to 20 cities in the region.
