BSNL net profit only Rs 104 crore in 2008-09
TT Correspondent |  New Delhi |  17 Jul 2009

The Minister of State for Communications and Post, Gurudas Kamat informed the Rajya Sabha that BSNL had managed to register a net profit of only Rs 104 crore in the fiscal year ended 2008-09. The profit figures appear drastically low considering that the PSU recorded revenues of Rs 34,397 crore.

The Minister attributed the dip in profits to the rising staff costs post revision of pay and merger of 50 percent IDA with basic pay for all employees. Additionally revenues from services dropped by 20.65 % to 11,505 crore from Rs 14,499 crore in 2007-08.
