Qualcomm refutes charges alleged by Japanese regulator
TT Bureau |  |  17 Aug 2009

Qualcomm came out strongly against the recent draft order from Japan Fair Trade Commission (JFTC) which alleged that the company was coercing handset manufacturers in Japan to toe the terms and conditions laid out by the firm and thereby ensure virtual monopoly of the firm.

Subsequent to its review of the draft order, Qualcomm said that the licence agreement with the manufacturers were stuck many years ago and it would be difficult to review it now. Qualcomm believes that requiring revisions of long-standing contracts is neither justified by the facts nor supported by the law.

The company would submit its written reply within two weeks.
