DoT directs operators to disconnect illegal IMEI connections from Dec 01
TT Correspondent |  New Delhi |  15 Sep 2009

Inspite of the availability of a software to legalise handsets with duplicate IMEI numbers, the use of such handsets continues unabated. It is for this reason that the DoT has given a ultimatum to mobile service providers to disconnect all connections under fake IMEI handsets from December 01.

The DoT has asked operators to disconnect all connections which are not in the database of GSMA. GSMA maintains worldwide database of genuine IMEI connections which in turn is activate every fortnight in the Equipment Register of mobile service provider’s network.

The DoT has asked operators to submit their compliance report by December 15.
