China Unicom to rollout commercial 3G services by end of this month

China Unicom said today that it is geared up to launch its 3G services based on WCDMA standards across 285 cities from September 28, 2009. The move follows company’s soft launch of the services on May 17, 2009.

China Unicom claims that it has already registered subscriber base of 350,000 for its 3G services.

The company now aims to offer nine packages to potential subscribers. The bundled packages are priced between RMB 98 ($14.34) to RMB 886 ($129.68) per month.
