Uninor claims 1.2 million subscriber additions in first month of launch
TT Correspondent |  New Delhi |  13 Jan 2010

Uninor, the joint venture between Unitech Wireless and Norway’s Telenor claimed on Tuesday to have notched up 1.2 million new subscribers in the first month of its launch.

The company had launched its GSM-based mobile services in 8 circles in early December last year. The 8 circles are Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, East and West Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand.

"We are building on our launch -- scaling up our network and our distribution. In a competitive market, it will never be easy, but we have a long term ambition and we have made a positive start," said Uninor managing director Stein-Erik Vellan.

"We are still in a very early phase, but this is an indication that our price plans are perceived as attractive for Indian consumers," he added.
