Samsung Electronics to launch first Linux-based mobile phone
TT Bureau |  |  20 Feb 2008

Samsung Electronics is all set to launch first LiMo phone which is a linux based operation system for the mobile phone.

It said that it will supply the world’s first commercial LiMo phone to Orange, a UK affiliate of France Telecom. Orange decided to launch Samsung LiMo phone to recover its market share against its competitor, O2, which launched Apple’s iPhone exclusively.

Orange demonstrated the testing of Samsung’s LiMio phone at the Mobile World Congress held in Barcelona. President Choi Ji-sung of Samsung Electronics Information & Communications Division said, “Samsung puts a top priority on the LiMo development rather than our own platform.”

Samsung expects to take lead in the linux-based mobile phone market after the successful launch of LiMo phone.
