BSNL launches 3G services in 3 districts of Tamil Nadu; earmarks Rs 1000 cr investment in the state

BSNL launched its 3G services in three districts namely Coimbatore, Coonor and Ooty in the Southern circle of Tamil Nadu with 38 more cities and towns to be covered within three months.

''The total capacity addition planned under Phase V.1 is 23 lakh lines, of which 19 lakh is for 2G services and four lakh lines for 3G. The total expenditure involved is approximately Rs 1000 crore including Rs 130 crore for 3G,'' says BSNL.  

In the first phase, the Tamil Nadu circle is set to have 3,262 new sites in addition to the 3,124 sites already present. 1,119 sites out of these will be for 3G services and 2,143 for 2G services.

In Coimbatore alone, the company is investing Rs 163.2 crore with 184 sites for 3G to cover the entire city. For Coonoor, the investment earmarked is Rs 33 crore including Rs 1 crore for 3G services.
