Mobile Subscribers: India records highest additions in the world for Jan

India maybe behind China in terms of total mobile subscriber base. But the country continues to attract global attention as it emerges out to be the fastest growing market. India added 8.77 million mobile subscribers in January as compared to 8.42 million subscribers added in China.

 

The total number of telephone connections reached 281.62 million at the end of January, against 272.88 million in December 2007. Tele-density increased to 24.63% at the end of January. The total wireless subscribers (GSM, CDMA & WLL (F)) base stood at 242.40 million at the end of January 2008.

 

India has added a record 83 million subscribers during the last 12 months while China added 76 million subscribers during the same period.
