NSN closing gap with Ericsson for global wireless market share
Agencies |  Helsinki |  23 Feb 2008

The joint venture firm Nokia-Siemens is closing the gap for market share in wireless equipment space with Ericsson. According to a research firm, Dell''Oro, the JV managed a market share of 29 % for the fourth quarter while Ericsson registered a market share of 34%.

NSN thus managed a 4 % increase as compared to figures during the same period last year while Ericsson’s market share dipped 2 %.

Analysts attribute NSN’s success to its strong growth in the emerging markets.

Alcatel-Lucent managed a 16 % market share while Huawei recorded 5 % share, almost at par with Motorola. Nortel just about managed to hold on to the number four position with slightly higher market share than Motorola and Huawei.

The same report claims that Huawei will surpass Alcatel-Lucent for 3G deployment.

According to the report price will play an important role in determining future deals and this may give a competitive edge to Chinese vendors.
