Vodafone Essar applies for 3G as well as BWA spectrum auctions
TT Correspondent |  New Delhi |  18 Mar 2010

It seems the WiMAX story in India is heading towards end even before a proper beginning. While Qualcomm yesterday announced plans to bid for BWA spectrum and offer TD-LTE based services over the spectrum, Mobile service provider Vodafone Essar too applied to participate in the forthcoming BWA spectrum auctions.

The operator has applied to participate in the 3G spectrum auctions as well.

By applying for BWA spectrum, Vodafone Essar becomes the first and only one among incumbent GSM operators to apply for 3G as well as BWA spectrum auctions. And by applying for BWA spectrum auctions the company has made clear its LTE focus.

Reliance Communications also applied to bid for 3G spectrum auctions.
