Raja says taking steps to improve BSNL’s performance
TT Correspondent |  New Delhi |  16 Apr 2010

Union Communications Minister, A Raja said that the government is working towards improving the financial performance of BSNL.

"BSNL is making all out efforts to retain landline customers and increase utility by providing several value added services," said the Minister in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha.

He however acknowledged that the PSU’s market share had declined from 31.29% in 2006-07 to 15.75% by Feb, 2010.

The Minister said that the company is working towards improving its landline network, introduce new services and improve marketing strategies.

TO increase revenues, BSNL is leasing passive infrastructure as well as hunting for opportunities abroad, said the Minister.

"It (BSNL) is also in the process of rolling out its WiMAX network to take an initial lead and provide wireless broadband services in rural blocks in the country in 2010-11," added Raja.
