TT Correspondent |  Mumbai |  31 May 2010

Opera Mini released its Web Usage findings for the month of April, 2010 pointing out that over 2.6 million people used its browser for mobile phones, Opera Mini using their iPhones. Opera had launched Opera Mini for iPhone in April. The iPhone now stands at number 3 position in the list of most popular devices for Opera Mini users across the world.

Overall for the month of April, 2010 Opera Mini recorded over 58.9 million users at a monthly rise of 6.6% and a yearly rise of 152%.

Page views were at 26.3 billion at a monthly rise of 1.6% and yearly rise of 203%.

Collectively Opera Mini users generated more than 398 million MB data for mobile operators which is remarkable considering that Opera Mini compresses data by as much as 90%.

The top 10 countries for Opera Mini usage in April 2010 were Russia, Indonesia, India, China, Ukraine, United States, South Africa, Nigeria, Vietnam and the United Kingdom.

For the Indian market, page view growth on Opera mini platform were at a yearly rise of 302.1% while unique visitor count was up by 308.1% since April, 2009. Page views per user were at 378 and data transferred per user was 7 MB.

“While many iconic smartphones are superb web-browsing tools, today it is possible to make nearly every phone capable of browsing the Web gracefully,” said Jon von Tetzchner, Co-founder, Opera Software. “Because the number of mobile-web users will eventually dwarf wireline users, making the Web works flawlessly only on a handful of mobile devices is to turn our collective backs on more than a billion new users. We believe access to the Web is a universal right, and as more companies embrace developing sites for the wide spectrum of mobile-web users, we will come closer to that goal than ever before.”
