MNP likely by Sept this year

TRAI Chairman J S Sarma said that the mobile number portability (MNP) will be implemented in the country by September 2010.

"The MNP was deferred because lack of preparedness on part of BSNL. Now, we are doing a study on what kind of an action can be taken if some operators is lagging behind on portability," said the Chairman.

Sarma said, "Bharat Sanchar Nigam (BSNL) had some issues relating to number portability and we now need to check if they are ready, so that number portability can be implemented by September - the revised deadline."
