BSNL to launch WiMAX services in Chandigarh
TT Bureau |  |  08 Jul 2010

PSU BSNL is in the process of launching WiMAX services in Chandigarh within two months time, reports Business Standard.

"Already we have launched our services in Punjab, making Punjab the first state in the country to be covered through Wimax Broadband service and now we are in process of launching in Chandigarh. We would be investing close to Rs 70 crore in rolling out our services in Punjab and Chandigarh,” said Punjab Circle, CGM, S S Sirohi to Business Standard.

The report adds that BSNL’s services are available in 61 tehsils out of the 74 tehsils and 80 blocks out of 143 blocks. The remaining areas will be covered in six months time. The existing subscriber base for WiMAX services in the circle is 1,000 and the PSU aims to increase it to 18,000 by the end of the current financial year.

The operator would be targeting SME, enterprises, government institutions, schools and colleges.
