Rebranded Obi Worldphone unveils SF1 and SJ1.5 mid-range Android smartphones; to be availble from October

Obi Mobile, a handset manufacturer co-founded by ex-Apple CEO John Sculley has been rebranded as Obi Worldphone, and unveiled two new smartphones - the dual-SIM SF1 and SJ1.5 in San Francisco. Obi SF1 smartphone will be available in two variants, a 2GB RAM and 16GB inbuilt storage, priced at $199, approximately Rs. 13,000 and a 3GB RAM and 32GB inbuilt storage, priced at $249, approximately Rs. 16,500. On the other hand Obi SJ1.5 smartphone will be available at $129, approximately Rs. 8,500.

Both the smartphones SF1 and SJ1.5 will be available starting October in retail stores in some countries and online sites in others. The company has announced that the smartphones will be initially available in, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kenya, Nigeria, Tanzania, South Africa, Pakistan, Turkey, India, Vietnam, Indonesia and Thailand.

Obi Worldphone dual-SIM SF1: -

Obi Worldphone SF1 comes with 5-inch JDI In-Cell IPS full-HD (1080x1920 pixels) display offering a pixel density of 443ppi with Corning Gorilla Glass 4 for screen protection. It runs on Android 5.0.2 Lollipop with the Obi Lifespeed UI, powered by a 64-bit octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 (MSM8939) SoC clocked at 1.5GHz coupled with Adreno 405 GPU with 2GB RAM.

Obi Worldphone SF1 also has 13-megapixel autofocus camera with LED Flash, Sony Exmor IMX214 sensor, and f/2.0 aperture, a 5-megapixel front camera with LED flash. Its inbuilt storage is 16GB which can be expandable up to 64GB through microSD card.

For connectivity smartphone has 4G LTE, WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n, dual band, WiFi direct. Bluetooth 4.0, A2DP, GPS with A-GPS/ GLONASS, micro USB 2.0, accelerometer, proximity sensor, gyroscope, and ambient light sensor with dual mic for noise cancellation, Dolby Audio Surround 7.1, and Quick Charge 1.0, for fast charging and also come up with 3000mAh battery.

Obi Worldphone SF1 measures 146x74x8mm and weighs 147 grams.

                                                                      

Obi Worldphone dual-SIM SJ1.5: -

Obi Worldphone SJ1.5 comes with 5-inch HD (720x1280 pixels) display offering a pixel density of 294ppi with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 for screen protection. It runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop with Obi Lifespeed UI, powered by a quad-core MediaTek (MT6580) clocked at 1.3GHz coupled with 1GB RAM.

Obi Worldphone SJ1.5 also has an 8-megapixel autofocus rear camera with f/2.2 aperture and LED flash, a 5-megapixel front camera. Its inbuilt storage is 16GB which can be expandable up to 32GB through microSD card.

For connectivity smartphone has 3G, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, WiFi Direct, Bluetooth 4.0, A2DP, GPS and micro USB 2.0 with 3000mAh battery.

Obi Worldphone SJ1.5 measures 146x73x7.95mm, and weighs 131 grams.

The company has also set a target to make the SF1 and SJ1.5 smartphones available in 50 to 70 countries by 2017.
