LG to roll-out Android 8.0 Oreo for G6 by next week

LG G6 was earlier reported to get Android 8.0 Oreo update within the first half of 2018. Now the company has officially announced to roll out the Android 8.0 Oreo update for the LG G6 by next week. More exactly, the update will be rolled out starting Monday, April 30 and it will be first coming to the G6 devices in LG's home country - South Korea. The update is said to roll-out in other regions also later.

After updating the LG G6, the company says it will roll out the Android Oreo to its G5 and V20 smartphones as well later. Both the smartphones were launched back in the year 2016. However, LG did not reveal any specific time-frame for the exact rollout for both of them.

After the Oreo update, the smartphone will have picture-in-picture mode that lets users to two tasks simultaneously. So, for example, one can minimise a YouTube video while sending a text message or writing an email. Android Oreo has other features like including Background limits, installation of apps via APK, over 60 new emojis, notification dots, Wide-gamut colour for apps, Snoozing individual notification, Adaptive icons, Keyboard navigation, WebView enhancements and much more. Apart from all these goodies of Oreo, the update will also bring in some AI (Artificial Intelligence) features to the G6 that debuted on the LG V30s ThinQ.

To recall, the LG G6 features a 5.7-inch 18:9 QHD+ Full Vision display with a resolution of 2880 x 1440 pixels and is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor. It comes with 4GB LPDDR4 RAM and 32GB/64GB on internal storage, which can be further expandable up to 2TB via MicroSD card. It runs on Android 7.0 Nougat operating system and is backed up by a 3,300mAh (embedded) battery with Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 support. It also houses a fingerprint scanner and comes with USB Type-C 2.0 (3.1 compatible) as well.

On the camera front, it has Dual rear camera setup with a combination of 13-megapixel Wide (F2.4 / 125°) and 13-megapixel Standard OIS 2.0 (F1.8 / 71°) sensor with LED flash. On the front, it has a 5-megapixel Wide (F2.2 / 100°) selfie camera. Besides, the smartphone offers 4G/LTE, Wi-Fi (802.11 a, b, g, n, ac), Bluetooth 4.2 BLE, NFC, Water and Dust Resistant support, UX 6.0, Dolby Vision, HDR10 and 32-bit Hi-Fi Quad DAC. The handset measures 148.9 x 71.9 x 7.9mm and weighs 163 grams.
