Asia registers 54 % growth in IPTV subscriber base
Developed countries dominate the top markets for broadband. But the list is headed by China which as close to 93 million subscribers for broadband services. Next comes USA with 86 million subscribers

The growth of broadband subscribers base and IPTV is going hand-in-hand. This is what a new research from Point Topic suggests which reveals that while the worldwide broadband subscriber base grew by 17% or 12.9 million to reach 445 million at the end of Q 2 09, the IPTV segment reported a growth of 11% to notch up 26.9 million subscribers in total at the end of Q2 09.

Broadband Growth in Q2 09:

Asia Pacific region witnessed the least growth rate for broadband subscriber additions. Latin America followed by Eastern Europe and South & East Asia (in that order) reported the highest growth rates. Europe is witnessing good broadband uptake and four of the world’s top 10 markets for broadband are in Europe.

Europe now has over 135 million broadband subscribers. Western Europe as a region alone has near about 110 million subscribers.

IPTV services:

Regionwise, Asia reported a 54 % growth rate to take the IPTV subscriber base with 3 million subscribers. Europe followed close behind with a 51 % increase in IPTV base with an impressive 13 million subscriber base at the end of Q2 2009. Americas recorded a 86 % growth rate in uptake for IPTV services.

Technology Trends:

In terms of technology, DSL remained the market leader, but fibre and wireless medium saw increase in market share.
