Facebook reveals your low or high self-esteem level
TT Correspondent |  |  16 Sep 2013

If you repeatedly open your Facebook account to see how the others have reacted to your posts or about them, you have low self-esteem, a new study reveals. Such people often delete the unwanted posts by others.

In contrast, people with high self-esteem keep adding information about their activities, families and continuously making new additions to their profiles, said Researchers at the Pennsylvania State University.

The study reveals this after observing 225 students from a South Korean university-how they filled in their profiles the manner in which they edited content posted by friends on their walls.

"The types of actions users take and the kinds of information they are adding to their Facebook walls and profiles are a refection of their identities," said S Shyam Sundar, distinguished professor of communications and co-director of the Media Effects Research Laboratory, Penn State.

Distinguished Professor of Communications and co-director of the Media Effects Research Laboratory, Penn State said that the types of actions users take and the kinds of information they are adding to their Facebook walls and profiles are a refection of their identities.

The study reveals that people with both high and low self-esteem spend time crafting their online personas on Facebook, but choose different paths in that construction.

Sundar said that the more one gets connected to Facebook, the stronger they feel that the items posted, for example-the pictures, are part of their identity and the more likely they are going to view these as their virtual possessions.
