BSNL Workers to go on 3 day strike from Dec 1st

Executives and Non-Executive Employees of BSNL numbering about three lakh will go on a three day strike from 1st December 2010 opposing Disinvestment/ IPO and retrenchment of one lakh workers through VRS as recommended by Sam Pitroda Committee. The other demands include procurement of adequate mobile equipment, Absorption of ITS officers who are on deputation to BSNL for the last 10 years, honouring of the government’s commitment to ensure financial viability of BSNL through ADC, reimbursement of Licence Fee, Liberal allotment from Universal Service Obligation Fund etc.

The Joint Action Committee of BSNL Associations / Unions, which has given the call for strike is also demanding refund of Rs.18,500 crores, which BSNL was compelled to pay the government towards 3G spectrum charges, direction to all Central & State Governments and PSUs to take only BSNL/MTNL connections , revision of pension for pre-2007 retirees and 78.2% IDA pay fixation w.e.f. 01-01-2007.

The strike will start from 0600 A.M. on 1st December and will end at 0600 AM on 4th December 2010.

VRS is necessary in BSNL .Already overstaffed.Demand to return spectrum charges is not fair.
