TT Correspondent |  |  10 May 2012

MediaTek Inc., a leading fabless semiconductor company for wireless communications and digital multimedia solutions, has been conferred the ‘Best Innovation in Mobile Video Technology’ Award at the National Telecom Awards 2012, organized by CMAI, for its latest path breaking audio video compression software, ‘Mobile Theater’.

CMAI is a national apex association of India with over 8,500 members and 50 international MoU partners. The award ceremony was held on May 8th 2012 at Siri Fort Auditorium, New Delhi. The nominations were adjudged on various criteria such as technology innovation, commercial success, execution of strategy and dedication to research and development by an emnent Jury Committee consisting of members from Department of Commerce, Law, Telecom, IT and industry associations’ representatives, former bureaucrats, and secretary/CMD from Telecom/BSNL/MTNL. The award selections have been vetted by international knowledge partners Mazars International and Dion.

MediaTek’s new audio video compression software ‘Mobile Theater’ allows users to store digital or audio files of up to 50 film clips on a 2GB T card. The software runs both MPEG 4 and H.264, among other popular digital video/audio coding formats. This ensures that the files compressed by “Mobile Theater” will play on almost any brand of feature phones. Many of India’s major handset brand names including, Micromax, SPICE, Karbonn, Lava, MAXX, Videocon, Onida, Intex, Lemon, have embraced MediaTek’s latest technological innovation. ‘Mobile Theater’ optimizes subtitle crispness and sound quality parameters to ensure that compressed video/audio files retain high fidelity. Besides solving the problem of video or audio files taking up excessive memory space in handset devices, ‘Mobile Theater’ also offers a clear improvement in the image and sound quality of compressed files during playback. In addition, “Mobile Theater” software also supports 2D/3D content switching.

On receiving the ‘Best Innovation in Mobile Video Technology’ award, Grant Kuo, Managing Director, MediaTek India, said “Since 15 years, MediaTek is committed to growing the global mobile ecosystem  by introducing revolutionary technologies that enhance the experience of the handset users and provide them with the best-in-class multimedia solutions at affordable prices. As the world’s leading handset IC solutions provider, MediaTek has packaged ‘Mobile Theater’ with advanced multimedia features that give more added value to both smart and feature phone users at no added cost. We are proud on receiving this award which recognizes MediaTek’s relentless focus on delivering innovative, feature rich yet cost effective solutions to meet consumer's entertainment, communication and information needs.”
