Telecom Commission to discuss 900 Mhz refarming on Wednesday
TT Correspondent |  |  16 Oct 2012

In a crucial meeting that will he held on Wednesday, the Telecom Commission (TC) would discuss three options on refarming of spectrum in the 900 MHz band.

The 900 MHz is available with incumbent operators such as Airtel, Vodafone, BSNL and Idea Cellular.

The three options that the Telecom Commission is going to explore are- reframe all airwaves held by incumbents in the 900 MHz band, allow operators to retain up to 5 MHz of spectrum, permit them to retain only 2.5 MHz.

The issue is a contentious one as the new players have been pressing for level playing field arguing that incumbent operators using 900 MHz are better placed.
