The MEAIndia app has become an instant hit with the masses within 24 hrs after it was launched by the ministry of external affairs making to the top on Apple App Store.

The app is going to become more popular in near future as the biggest advantage of the app is that one can know the status of one’s passport with its help.

MEAIndia app was launched for smartphones and tablets. This is the first time a ministry has done this in the country.

Most of us are directly or indirectly related to the functioning of the external affairs ministry for various reasons which include details about passport, High Commissions abroad or for that matter Haj or other yatras. For scribes it could be the questions and answers in the parliament.

 The app acts as a single window source of all information related to Ministry's citizen centric services and outreach activities.

The app is available for free download on the Apple and Android app stores and through this the users can have access to a range of information and services which include  Indian missions overseas, information on passport and visas, details of Haj and Kailash Mansarovar yatra, India's foreign policy initiatives, official visits etc. Users can also track status of their passport applications.

Outgoing foreign secretary Ranjan Mathai said the situation has changed from communicating messages to interlocutors discreetly, quietly and in a detached manner to being more open today.
