Airtel partners Huawei for 3G roll out in Bangladesh

Airtel Bangladesh a wholly owned subsidiary of Bharti Airtel has selected Huawei Technologies to deploy out 3G network in Bangladesh.

Airtel Bangladesh on Sunday bagged 5 Mhz of third generation (3G) spectrum for $105 million in Bangladesh on Sunday in bidding that lasted less than five minutes.

Airtel Bangladesh CEO and Managing Director Chris Tobit  said that 3G services will mark the beginning of the next phase of Bangladesh's telecom growth story and elevate the telecom sector at par with most advanced telecom markets in the world, said.

"We are glad to partner with Airtel in 3G rollout in Bangladesh. We hope to provide best in class support to cater to satisfactory innovative services for the customers." Huawei Technologies Bangladesh CEO Baker Zhou said.

In India, Bharti Airtel, in May 2012 had appointed Huawei, to plan, design, supply and deploy its TD LTE (4G) network in Kolkata and Karnataka. The company is likely to ask Huawei to handle 4G network rollouts in the country's biggest data markets of Delhi and Mumbai.
