RCom appoints former Airtel executive Vinod Sawhny as its new CEO
TT Correspondent |  |  11 Feb 2014

Reliance Communications (RCom) has named former Bharti Airtel executive Vinod Sawhny as its new chief executive officer. His appointment is the part of organisational restructuring to drive growth.

Sawhny headed Bharti Airtel's phone-manufacturing division Airtel Mobility and was with the group for ten years.

“Sawhny brings with him over 30 years well-rounded experience in establishing and building overseas businesses,” a company statement said.

It also announced that Gurdeep Singh whom Sawhny replaced will have an expanded role. He will head its consumer business arm comprising wireless, DTH and consumer broadband divisions.

Before joining Airtel Sawhny had worked with Spice Telecom. It may be recalled that in  2009 RCom had roped in  another Airtel executive Syed Safawi  as its CEO of wireless business.

RCom Management Board will include Sawhny, Singh, company's CEO for Indian Enterprise and Internet Data Centre business, Reliance Globalcom's CEO Bill Barney, President for IT and Services Suresh Rangachar, Chief Financial Officer Manikantan Iyer and Human Resource President Amit Das.
