BSNL says already issued 8 mn order to Huawei for Southern region; re-tendering unlikely
TT Correspondent |  New Delhi |  09 Nov 2009

BSNL CMD, Kuldeep Goyal today said that the company has already placed equipment orders with shortlisted vendors, Ericsson and Huawei and the negotiations on price with these two firms are going on well.

“We have asked Huawei to supply 8 million 2G GSM lines in the Southern region,” said the CMD. "We are not contemplating retendering for the 93 million contract," he added.

The revelation comes at a time when a couple of days earlier, the DoT had asked BSNL to consider re-tendering in wake of lack of competition in each of the zones. DoT apprehends that due to lack of competition, BSNL may not be able to negotiate aggressively with the shortlisted vendors.
