TT Correspondent |  New Delhi |  14 Jan 2010

BSNL alongwith other companies has entered the second round in race to acquire stake in Zambia’s Zambia Telecommunications Ltd. (Zamtel), reports the Business Line. It is the country’s only fixedline service provider.

“All the four companies that submitted the first round bids on December 23, 2009, for up to 75 per cent stake in Zamtel have successfully gone to the second round of bidding,” said Zambia Development Agency (ZDA). “The ZDA Board at meeting held on January 11, 2009 approved the recommended shortlist after detailed analysis conducted by an Evaluation Committee,” added the government agency.

Zamtel’s revenue figures for December 2009 stood at $ 100 million.

Others in race to acquire stake in Zamtel include LAP Greencom Ltd/LAP Green Networks of Libya, Unitel/Angola Cables of Angola and Altimo Holdings/Vimpel Com of Russia.
