SAR Group-owned, Wynn Telecom plans to set up a mobile manufacturing unit in Himachal Pradesh (HP) at an investment of Rs.270 crore. The plant is likely to have production capacity of one million handsets per month.

The company’s MD, Arvind Vohra said that its first handset manufactured in India will be launched by August 2011.

“The group has earmarked an investment of Rs 500 crore for its telecom venture, of which Rs 100 crore will be invested this year and Rs 400 next year for setting up manufacturing plant in HP, marketing and R&D," said Vohra.

The company launched on Wednesday seven new dual SIM handsets in the Indian market priced in the range of Rs.1,500 to Rs.5,000.

The company has priced the handsets in the range of Rs.1,500 to Rs.5,000 as it claims that this price range accounts for 75-80% of the total mobile handset market in India.
