Nokia and Tata DOCOMO tie-up to jointly offer Nokia Ovi Tools

Tata Teleservices’ GSM services brand, Tata DOCOMO and handset major, Nokia announced joining of hands to offer Nokia Ovi tools particularly targeted towards rural and semi-urban segments.

The services on offer primarily are based on Agriculture, Education and Entertainment.

The two companies have entered into a MoU according to which Tata DOCOMO will offer the tools to all its subscribers. The services will include news alerts in the fields of agriculture and education.

Speaking on the announcement, V Ramnath, Director, Operator Accounts, Nokia India said, “Nokia Ovi Life Tools is a service that has the potential of transforming the lives of the rural and semi-urban population of India. For this service to scale and benefit larger section of users, it is important to have partners like Tata DOCOMO who share Nokia’s vision of empowering people with the right tools.”

GurinderSingh Sandhu, Head Marketing, Tata DOCOMO said, “This is a great platform for us to make a difference to the lives of our customers in smaller towns and rural markets in a relevant and meaningful way. Both Agriculture and Educational services on Mobile are life assisting services which will act as powerful enablers in helping people earn their living. We are proud to associate with Nokia and we are confident that Tata DOCOMO subscribers will find these services useful.”

The Nokia Agriculture services will be available across 18 states and in 11 regional languages namely Hindi, Malayalam, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Punjabi, Marathi, Bengali, Gujarati, Oriya and English. Subscribers can choose among two plans, a basic plan at Rs 30/month, provides daily weather updates and relevant agriculture-related news, advice and tips while a premium plan at Rs 60/month, provides the closest market prices for three crops chosen by the subscriber, as well as weather information, news, advice and tips.

Other services on offer include Learn English, General Knowledge or Exam Tips for Rs 30/month.
