SBI extends mobile banking service to include non-GPRS phones as well

The State Bank of India (SBI) has extended its mobile banking service, State Bank freedom to include non-Java and non-GPRS mobile phones as well.

Presently the service was restricted to only Java-enabled mobile phones over SMS/GPRS/WAP and on non-Java phones with GPRS connections.

The service was launched on a pilot basis in March 2009.

The service is open to customers holding debit cards and can also be done at ATMs. Customers have to pay for SMS and GPRS charges as per their mobile services plans.

The service offers transfer of funds, viewing of the balance, and mini-statements of the customers' accounts, payment of bills, request for cheque book, recharge of prepaid mobile connections, viewing of demat account details, top-up of Tata Sky/other direct-to-home services, and conduct of m-commerce transactions, said the bank.
