3Com Corporation said Wednesday that Emmi, a Swiss-based milk processor and dairy products company has evolved to a highly advanced Gigabit LAN based on 3Com’s H3C enterprise networking solutions.

This core-to-edge network expansion will not only help Emmi transition from traditional telephony to IP telephony, but will also ready it for future undertakings, said the company.

As a part of the transition, Emmi has deployed enterprise modular H3C S7500E switches in the core of the network, H3C S5500 switches and H3C S5100 Gigabit PoE (Power over Ethernet) switches at the network edge.

Anton Kiwic, country manager, 3Com Switzerland, said, “Emmi is another well-known enterprise customer that has turned to our H3C technology to expand its network. Particularly gratifying is that 3Com, with our H3C products, offers not only a significant cost advantage over the market, but also significantly higher quality and innovation."

At the same time, 3Com has teamed up with integration partner Swiss telco Swisscom in a two-year project to allow Emmi to more easily handle the heavy demands of IP telephony and the requirement for extra bandwidth to prop up its data traffic.

“Emmi, with the use of H3C components, now has a sustainable infrastructure for its IP telephony strategy. This has taken the company to the next generation of products necessary for the longevity of the telephony infrastructure,” said Martin Zihlmann, head of Solution Sales at Swisscom.

The implementation of converged network provides Emmi with a high-performance and eco-friendly platform, with the H3C products using an estimated 70 percent less power than the previously installed switches, said 3Com.

Additionally, it is also said to help cut back on operational costs and accelerate network performance, giving Emmi the best possible support for innovative business strategy.

The H3C solution provides us with an excellent price performance ratio and, through the ''greening' of our IT operations, we can meet our corporate social responsibilities,” said Urs Mueller, IT director at Emmi.

The converged network helps significantly reduce operational costs and increases network performance, resulting in the best possible support for Emmi's innovative business strategy.
