Aircel, Infosys tie-up for VAS through application stores

Mobile service provider, Aircel and Software major, Infosys Technologies announced a tie-up to launch mobile applications stores which will allow consumers to browse and download applications on to their mobile handsets.

As part of the alliance, Infosys will deploy its ‘Flypp’ application platform for Aircel.

“We are delighted to partner with Aircel on their strategic initiative to redefine consumer experience. Flypp is part of our continued thrust to provide platforms and products to help our clients rapidly capitalise on new business opportunities,” said Infosys Chief Operating Officer, Mr S.D. Shibulal. The company is now exploring similar deals with other operators including domestic as well as international.

“The Aircel application store will provide rich consumer insight to drive and offer the consumers a broad selection of most relevant applications to choose from in the most convenient manner be it through voice, SMS, GPRS or the Internet on your mobile,” said Mr Gurdeep Singh, COO, Aircel.

The concept of application stores was first devised by Apple for its popular iPhone model. Nokia too has lined up numerous applications for its Ovi branded application stores. Vodafone as an operator has launched such application stores in developed markets.
