HCL Infosystems bags Rs 40 crore from Census of India

HCL Infosystems announced bagging a new contract worth Rs.40 crore from the Census of India towards digitizing the data generated by the government body for the ongoing project of census of the country.

The project involves digitising data collected across the country including maintenance, indexing, scanning and storage at a central repository.

Speaking on the occasion J.V. Ramamurthy, President and COO, HCL Infosystems said, “HCL Infosystems has a legacy of partnering and implementing large nation building projects successfully over the years in the country and to be involved with the Census of India is a matter of pride for us.  We deeply appreciate the Government’s vision to utilise technology as a driver for growth and look forward to partner in this task that involves every Indian citizen. HCL Infosystems, a leading player in various System Integration verticals, will continue to develop technology that truly touches lives”.

The project will involve processing all data captured including images and would also require extraction of information in English language format. Specialised software and other tools like Intelligent Character Recognition (ICR) will be deployed for extraction and cross verification.  Under the scope, HCL Infosystems will digitise the information gathered from approximately 55 Cr. survey forms and 1.10 Cr., images. The information will then be stored at a central repository gathered from 15 different project locations across the country.
